JOHN OWENS SENTENCED IN LIVERPOOL FOR FATAL ATTACK ON MOTHER
The case concerns 30-year-old John Owens, who has admitted to killing his mother, Julie Owens, after an argument at her residence in Wavertree, Liverpool, in August 2018.
During the assault, Julie Owens sustained head injuries and later died in hospital on January 4, 2019.
Initially, John Owens denied responsibility for his mother’s death but eventually pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
He received a sentence of four and a half years in prison at Liverpool Crown Court.
Detective Inspector Cath Haggerty described the incident as a "particularly harrowing case," noting that it involved Owens attacking his own mother during a dispute.
She added, "We hope that the sentencing allows the Owens family to grieve and begin to move forward, and that John Owens takes this time to reflect on his actions while serving his sentence."
