BRADFORD MAN AHMED THAKAR SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN BRADFORD
In October 2020, a disturbing case unfolded in Bradford involving the sexual exploitation of a vulnerable teenage girl by a man named Ahmed Thakar. The incident drew significant attention from the local community and the judicial system, highlighting the serious nature of child abuse and grooming.
Ahmed Thakar, a 64-year-old resident of Cleckheaton Road in Bradford, was found guilty of engaging in a series of heinous acts against a young girl.
The court heard that Thakar had systematically groomed the teenager, using monetary gifts, jewelry, and other tokens of affection to manipulate her into a false sense of trust.
Over a period of time, he persuaded her to exchange nearly 14,000 text messages, which revealed the extent of his inappropriate communication and grooming behavior.
During the proceedings at Bradford Crown Court, it was revealed that Thakar had lied to both the police and his own family about his actions.
He dismissed the allegations, claiming that the teenager’s accusations were merely her sexual fantasies.
Despite his denials, Thakar eventually pleaded guilty on the day of his trial to having engaged in sexual activity with the girl and kissing her.
The court was informed that these incidents occurred over a short but intense period, with Thakar admitting to multiple instances of sexual intercourse and other inappropriate conduct.
The prosecutor, Gerald Hendron, emphasized that the victim was particularly vulnerable, which made Thakar’s actions even more reprehensible.
Thakar, a married man and father of three children, had initiated contact by kissing the girl and asking for her phone number.
He then proceeded to have sex with her on several occasions, while also providing her with makeup, jewelry, and money to maintain his control over her.
Further disturbing details emerged when the court learned that Thakar had threatened the girl, warning her that if she told anyone, he would come to her house and kill her in front of her family.
Despite his marriage and family commitments, Thakar expressed a desire to marry the girl, which added to the gravity of his misconduct.
Investigators seized Thakar’s phone, uncovering a staggering 13,890 messages exchanged between him and the victim.
The messages included explicit content and promises of “good sex,” with Thakar aware that she was underage at the time.
He instructed her not to wear underwear when they met and engaged in sexual activities, further illustrating his predatory behavior.
In her victim personal statement, the girl shared that she now struggles with trust issues, reflecting the long-lasting impact of Thakar’s abuse.
His defense lawyer, Abigail Langford, presented a plea for leniency, citing Thakar’s wife’s letter to the court and claiming that he had “never hurt anyone.” However, Judge Jonathan Rose condemned Thakar’s actions as “utter wickedness,” criticizing his dishonesty and lack of remorse.
The judge highlighted that children are unable to protect themselves or comprehend that sexual activity is inappropriate for their age until they are much older and in a proper relationship.
Addressing Thakar directly, the judge stated that he was “devoid of any remorse whatsoever” and had lied extensively to cover his misconduct.
As part of his sentence, Thakar was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
The court’s decision underscored the seriousness of his crimes and the need to protect the community from further harm.
