ADAM TATE BURIY INJURES BABY SON IN SHOCKING CRUELTY CASE IN BURY

In November 2016, a distressing case of child abuse came to light involving Adam Tate, a single father from Bury, who was ultimately sentenced to prison for his brutal treatment of his young son. The incident revealed a disturbing pattern of neglect and violence that left the toddler with severe injuries.

Adam Tate, aged 26 and residing on Canterbury Drive in Bury, was found guilty of leaving his infant son with two broken bones following an assault. The injuries included a fractured right shin bone and a broken metatarsal in the child's left foot. Tate's actions and subsequent handling of the situation drew significant attention from the court and the community alike.

According to court records, Tate was initially charged with child cruelty but changed his plea on the first day of his trial to admit to a single count. He was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison at Bolton Crown Court. The presiding judge, Mr. Recorder Atherton, described the severity of Tate’s actions, stating, “This is more than ill-treatment. This is assault.”

The court proceedings revealed that the child's mother had denied Tate's paternity, asserting that he was not involved in her son’s life. She also claimed that Tate was absent during the child's birth in February 2013 and had no role in raising the boy. However, just three months after the birth, Nottinghamshire County Council intervened, removing the child from the mother’s care and reaching out to Tate.

Following a DNA test that confirmed paternity, Tate underwent assessments and was granted custody of his son. He secured a residency order, allowing the child to live with him in a flat located in Downham Gardens, Prestwich, alongside his sister. Despite this, the child's well-being was compromised.

On June 26, 2014, at around midnight, Tate took his 15-month-old son to North Manchester General Hospital, claiming that the child was unable to bear weight on his feet and was hesitant to walk or crawl. Prosecutor Paul Dockery explained that Tate told medical staff that the injuries resulted from the child's leg being caught between the bars of a cot and an adjacent set of drawers. However, medical professionals quickly doubted Tate’s account.

Medical experts described the injuries as requiring significant force, suggesting that the injuries could have been caused by a yank or a direct blow, or by forcibly twisting the child's leg. One doctor noted that such injuries would have been extremely painful, with the child likely crying out in pain for tens of minutes. The evidence pointed to a violent assault rather than an accidental injury.

As of now, the boy is three years old and has been adopted, having recovered from the trauma inflicted upon him. The case highlights the tragic consequences of neglect and violence within a family setting, and the court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which such cases are treated in the justice system.
