ADAM RILEY FROM HAYWARDS HEATH JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES INVOLVING CHILDREN IN SUSSEX
In a significant case that has shocked the community of West Sussex, Adam Riley, a 27-year-old school caretaker from Haywards Heath, has been sentenced to nearly six years in prison for a series of serious sexual offences. The sentencing took place at Lewes Crown Court, where Riley was found guilty of multiple charges related to his inappropriate and illegal conduct involving minors and women.Riley, who resided on Colwell Road in Haywards Heath, admitted to two counts of unlawful sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl, as well as charges of sexual assault on a woman and sexual exposure. The court heard that his criminal activities spanned several years, with offences committed between 2006 and 2009. The gravity of his actions prompted a thorough investigation by Sussex Police, specifically by their paedophile online investigation team, which uncovered disturbing evidence of Riley’s misconduct.
According to police reports, Riley was employed as a resident premises officer at St Paul’s Catholic College in Burgess Hill, a role that placed him in close contact with young students. However, he had been suspended from his duties following his arrest in August 2009, and he has not returned to his position since. The investigation revealed that Riley’s offences involved three victims, and authorities believe that his abusive behavior was systematic and targeted.
Sussex Police spokesperson Det Insp Ali Eaton commented on the case, stating, “It is clear that Riley was systematically abusive towards women, and we are glad to have been able to bring him to justice.” She also indicated that the police force suspects Riley may have committed additional offences, although these have not yet been publicly disclosed. The investigation also extended to Riley’s brother, Ian Riley, who was 25 at the time of his own arrest. Ian Riley, who also lived on the school site, was previously convicted and sentenced to three and a half years in prison at Hove Crown Court on July 29 of the previous year for secretly filming children during sports lessons. His offences, which occurred between 2004 and 2009, did not involve physical contact with children but involved covertly recording minors as they changed clothes.
It was confirmed that Ian Riley was staying with his brother at the school during the time of his offending, although his crimes did not take place on school premises. The police investigation into Adam Riley’s conduct was comprehensive, and the court’s sentencing reflects the severity of his actions. The community remains concerned about the safety of children and the importance of vigilance in safeguarding measures, especially in environments where adults are entrusted with the care of minors.
