BRIGHTON COUPLE ADAM JENDRZECZAK AND ALEKSANDRA KOPINSKA SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC BABY ABUSE IN BRIGHTON

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Brighton, a young couple was sentenced to a total of eight years in prison for inflicting severe injuries on a four-month-old baby boy.

The incident, which came to light in February 2017, revealed a horrifying pattern of abuse that left the infant with 28 fractured bones, including injuries to his knees, ankles, ribs, and arm.

Adam Jendrzeczak, aged 32, and his partner Aleksandra Kopinska, aged 22, were found responsible for the brutal injuries sustained by the child at their flat in Brighton.

The severity of the injuries was compounded by their efforts to conceal the extent of the harm from medical professionals.

For weeks, they attempted to hide the evidence of the trauma, leaving the baby in excruciating pain without seeking immediate help.

When the child was finally taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, medical staff quickly identified the extent of his injuries.

The couple initially claimed that the injuries resulted from the child tripping over a raised corner of carpet.

However, further investigation revealed that the injuries were far more severe and deliberate.

Police reports indicated that the injuries included 20 fractures to the ribs, as well as fractures to both knees and ankles, which experts explained were caused by twisting motions and crushing forces.

These injuries were determined to have occurred between four and six weeks prior to the hospital visit.

During the court proceedings at Hove Crown Court, Judge Christine Henson condemned the couple for their cruelty, describing their actions as “wicked cruelty towards a tiny baby.” The judge also highlighted Jendrzeczak’s troubling past, noting a previous conviction in 2011 for domestic violence, believed to be against his own mother.

The relationship between Jendrzeczak and Kopinska was characterized as controlling, with reports indicating high levels of anger and aggressive behavior.

Prosecutor Ryan Richter explained that the injuries were caused by significant force, and that the medical evidence pointed to a deliberate act of violence.

Experts testified that the fractures were inflicted over a period of weeks, and that the pain experienced by the infant would have been immense.

Despite the severity of the case, police reassured the public that the child was expected to recover physically, and was developing well without long-term issues.

Throughout the proceedings, Jendrzeczak displayed defiance, initially refusing to accept legal representation, insisting that his sentencing be delayed until his lawyer from Poland arrived.

When the court refused, he pleaded to be represented by court-appointed lawyer Brian Shaw.

However, Shaw explained that Jendrzeczak had refused to communicate with him prior to the hearing, and therefore could not act on his behalf.

Jendrzeczak then claimed he was being discriminated against for lacking his own lawyer, but Judge Henson dismissed this, criticizing his attitude and lack of remorse.

Judge Henson described Jendrzeczak as viewing himself as a victim and noted his complete disregard for the child's suffering.

She remarked that both neighbors and health professionals found his demeanor to be aggressive and hostile.

Kopinska, on the other hand, was described as passive and subdued during the proceedings.

She did not engage with professionals when questioned about domestic violence, and her defense argued that she appeared caring but cowardly.

The judge emphasized that she had failed to acknowledge the damage caused to the baby.

Concluding her remarks, Judge Henson stated that the injuries inflicted were not due to any medical condition or disease, but were deliberately caused with significant force, resulting in immense pain.

She condemned the act as a gross abuse of trust and cruelty that was almost beyond belief.

Both Jendrzeczak and Kopinska were sentenced to eight years in prison for child assault, neglect, and causing unnecessary suffering.

Jendrzeczak received an extended sentence, meaning he must serve at least two-thirds of his term before being eligible for parole, reflecting the gravity of his actions.
