Adam Barnett

St Neots Sexual Abuser

November 2010 Pervert used girl, 12, to satisfy sex urges A man who twice abused a vulnerable 12-year-old girl he had met through Facebook for his own sexual gratification has been jailed for three and a half years. The girl, who had claimed to be 14, had tracked Adam Barnett down after getting information about him from another girl, a court was told. Barnett, 29, of Orchard Road, Eaton Ford, committed serious sexual assaults on her twice in his car on a country road near St Neots. He admitted two offences involving a serious sexual assault against a girl under 13 and one offence of sexual assault when he appeared at Peterborough Crown Court. Judge Neil McKittrick told Barnett: “This was a girl who was not a mature girl and was 12 and was experiencing difficulties in her life. “You took advantage of her and what she was prepared to do to satisfy your very short-term needs.” He added: “It is pretty distasteful to me to think a 28-year-old man could be attracted even to a 14-year-old girl.” Judge McKittrick said no coercion or force had been used. Greg Perrins, prosecuting, said: “The victim in this case was 12 years old at the material time.” He said the girl appeared to have been looking for affection because she had been bullied over her size and had problems at home. Mr Perrins said the girl got to know of Barnett through a friend, searched for his Facebook page and began contact with him, saying she was 14. They exchanged messages on Facebook and by text, but the messages began to have sexual overtones.    Mr Perrins said Barnett picked the girl up in his car from St Neots and took her to a country road where he sexually assaulted her and got her to perform a sex act on him. He took her back to the same place the following day where the sex act was repeated. He told the court that the relationship ended and the girl complained to her mother, fearing she might be pregnant. Andrew Copeland, defending, said Barnett, who was of previous good character, admitted the offences from the outset. He said the girl initiated the relationship and he had ended it. “He realises these are serious offences and only a custodial sentence can meet the concerns,” Mr Copeland said.
