ABDAL RUBLE FROM BRADFORD SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES NEAR SCHOOL AND BUS STOPS
In December 2018, Abdul Rubel, a man residing in Bradford, was sentenced to 19 months in prison after a series of disturbing incidents involving minors and women in public spaces. The court heard that Rubel, aged 28 and living on Allerton Road, Bradford, had consumed a litre of pink wine in just five minutes before approaching a 14-year-old girl outside her school and making inappropriate sexual advances.
The girl was on her way to a medical appointment at around 10 a.m.
when Rubel, clutching a bottle of alcohol, approached her and stood uncomfortably close.
He then asked her if she wanted to have sex, prompting her to flee in terror.
The girl’s father, who witnessed the encounter, immediately contacted the police, and the girl was too traumatized to return to school that day.
Prosecutor Rebecca Young described her as being “extremely frightened, shocked and incredibly upset.” Approximately fifteen minutes later, Rubel, visibly intoxicated, targeted another victim—a woman waiting at a bus stop with her 16-year-old daughter.
Witnesses reported that Rubel was staggering and making inappropriate comments, telling the mother she knew what she liked.
While attempting to flag down a taxi to escape Rubel’s erratic behavior, he unexpectedly seized the 16-year-old girl from behind.
Both women were left feeling frightened and disgusted by the encounter.
The police, who were speaking to Rubel in the street after a shopkeeper raised the alarm, recognized him from previous incidents.
The father of the 14-year-old girl identified Rubel, leading to his arrest.
During police questioning, Rubel admitted that he approached the younger girl “for a laugh because he was boozed-up,” and he claimed to have consumed a litre of pink wine that morning, with no memory of the second incident.
It was revealed that Rubel had previously served an 18-week jail sentence earlier that year for attempting to grab a woman at a bus stop and sexually assaulting another woman by touching her breasts.
In June of the same year, he received a suspended sentence but was later jailed for 18 weeks after breaching it by touching another woman’s breast and asking her for sex.
Rubel’s legal counsel, Geraldine Kelly, highlighted that her client suffers from schizophrenia and had mixed his medication with alcohol.
She described him as lacking relationship stability and being a “serious nuisance rather than a public danger.” Judge Robert Bartfield condemned Rubel, labeling him “a sex pest,” emphasizing the danger posed to young girls going to school.
He stated, “Fourteen-year-old girls going to school must be allowed to do so without worrying about people like you.
This is now your third and fourth time of doing something like this.” As part of his sentence, Rubel was ordered to sign the sex offender register for ten years, reflecting the seriousness of his repeated offenses and the impact on the community of Bradford.
