ABDUL KHAN FROM MIDDLESBROUGH SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
In a case that has shocked the community of Middlesbrough, Abdul Khan, a 55-year-old man with a background in social work and youth justice, has been sentenced to a substantial prison term of 14 years for a series of heinous child sex offences.The crimes, which involved the sexual abuse of an underage girl, occurred over a period of more than a decade, and Khan’s actions have left a lasting impact on his victim.
Abdul Khan, who has spent most of his life in the UK after emigrating from Pakistan, held positions of trust and responsibility, including working with schools and in youth justice programs across Middlesbrough, Stockton, and Durham.
His professional profile indicates that he trained in social work at Teesside University and later became the chief executive officer of the Black Minority Ethnic Community Organisations Network (BECON) based in Stockton.
Despite his career achievements, his reputation was shattered when he was found guilty of multiple serious offences.
Earlier this month, a jury at Teesside Crown Court convicted Khan on 11 counts of indecent assault, six counts of indecency with a child, and one count of rape.
Khan vehemently denied all charges, claiming innocence and asserting that the incidents did not occur.
The offences were committed more than ten years ago, and the victim, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed the profound and lasting trauma she endured as a result of the abuse.
In her statement, she described feeling “out of control” and shared that the experience has left her with ongoing nightmares and flashbacks.
She also expressed that her sense of overprotectiveness and caution towards her own children stems from the trauma she suffered.
Her partner recounted that they had discussed reporting the abuse to authorities multiple times, but she was not ready until September 2015, when she finally felt strong enough to come forward.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Stephen Ashurst addressed Khan directly, emphasizing the gravity of his actions and the lack of remorse shown.
The judge stated, “I have struggled in this case to find any mitigating factors.
There is no flicker of any remorse.” He also remarked on the victim’s feelings of degradation and fear, highlighting the profound impact of the abuse.
Khan, who had no prior criminal record or cautions, stood in the dock without showing emotion as the sentence was passed.
As he was led away to serve his 14-year term, he simply responded with a quiet “thank you” to the judge.
Throughout the proceedings, Khan’s background and career were contrasted sharply with the severity of his crimes, casting a shadow over his previous contributions to society.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals and the devastating consequences when trust is betrayed by those in positions of authority.
