AARON BREMNER SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS IN PRISON IN BASINGSTOKE FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES

Serial offender Aaron Bremner has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after being convicted of a series of serious sexual offences in Basingstoke. Bremner subjected an innocent woman to a prolonged and terrifying assault after she kindly offered him a lift in her car. Southampton Crown Court heard that Bremner threatened to stab his victim and warned he would set the car on fire with her inside the boot if she screamed. Bremner, 29, who has an extensive criminal history with 31 previous convictions for 101 offences, was found guilty of two counts of rape, four counts of assault by penetration, one count of sexual assault, and one count of common assault, despite pleading not guilty to these charges. Judge Derwen Hope described him as 'extremely dangerous.' During sentencing, Bremner swore, shouted, and punched the walls before being removed from the dock by security staff. The court heard that Bremner met his victim, who stated she had never spoken to him before, by chance in March this year on the steps of a gym in Basingstoke after he had been out with friends. He asked her for a lift to the South Ham area, and she agreed. Prosecutor David Richards noted that once she was in the vehicle, Bremner 'quickly dropped the charming act.' When she asked him to get out, he became aggressive, forcing her to drive to a remote rural lane in Wootton St Lawrence where he carried out a brutal and sustained sexual assault, raping her twice and assaulting her multiple times. Bremner made violent threats toward her and her family if she screamed or tried to alert others. After the assault, which lasted over an hour, the victim went home and immediately contacted police. Bremner surrendered himself to officers shortly after. Mr. Richards emphasized the profound impact on the victim, saying she now struggles to perform normal activities, constantly haunted by the incident and suffering from sleep difficulties. Defense lawyer Richard Onslow stated that Bremner had no prior convictions for sexual offences and emphasized, 'He has never done anything like this before.' In his sentencing remarks, Judge Hope described the victim’s experience as 'horrendous' and confirmed that she was 'terrified.' Detective Constable Sol Koranteng of Basingstoke police commented, 'Aaron Bremner is a dangerous man, and I welcome the sentence he has received for this heinous crime.' He added, 'The victim was left extremely distressed and had to give evidence at trial. The lengthy sentence reflects the seriousness of this offence and sends a clear message that individuals convicted of serious sexual crimes will face substantial prison terms.'
