MAN WHO CALLED WOMAN 10,000 TIMES IN TWO MONTHS JAILED
A man received a two-year prison sentence after making approximately 10,000 calls to a woman over a period of less than two months.Zohaib Mehmood, aged 22 from Essex, was sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Tuesday, 16 June.
He admitted to charges including stalking that caused serious alarm or distress, threatening to share private images or videos of someone in an intimate context, and attempting to obstruct justice through a series of actions.
From September to October of the previous year, Mehmood repeatedly contacted the woman, making around 10,000 calls.
He also left her approximately 600 voicemail messages and tried to reach her via social media platforms and email.
On several occasions, he traveled 180 miles from his home to the university accommodation in Newcastle-under-Lyme where the victim was residing, and he was found loitering nearby.
The victim reported her experiences to the authorities, prompting an investigation.
During this process, Mehmood threatened to share manipulated photographs of the woman with her family and repeatedly urged her to drop her complaint.
He was arrested shortly thereafter and answered ‘no comment’ during police interviews conducted while in custody.
