Delton Coley has been handed a life sentence after admitting responsibility for the murder of his ex-partner, Daneshia Arthur.
In court proceedings, it was revealed that Coley, 36 years old, acknowledged killing the 30-year-old woman at her home in Dagenham, east London, on March 18.
He received a minimum imprisonment term of 17 years.
The incident occurred after Arthur permitted Coley into her residence to visit their child, whom he fathered with her.
She initially refused his entry but relented upon his return, armed with kitchen knives.
Coley then attacked her by stabbing her multiple times in the back, with her body later found by her mother that evening.
He was detained the following day at a residence in Upton Park.
The victim’s family voiced their sorrow; her mother, Colleen Ollivierre, said, 'Daneshia's death has devastated our lives and our family.' Her brother, Gregory, described her as 'a focused and beautiful individual,' and called her death 'devastating and unjust.' Detective inspector Andy Yeats criticized Coley's actions, noting that he had the opportunity to seek help by calling emergency services but chose to escape instead, calling him 'a cowardly man.'
