TEACHER AND HER BOYFRIEND JAILED FOR FILMING CHILD ABUSE
A primary school teacher and her paedophile boyfriend who filmed themselves sexually abusing a child have been sentenced to prison. Zoe Williams, aged 30, and Thomas Surtees, aged 37, were described by a victim's mother as "monsters" after their wrongful actions came to light. The pair's crimes came to public attention following Surtees' arrest for sexual assault involving young teenagers. An investigation uncovered videos on both their phones depicting the abuse of children, with the videos showing Williams encouraging her boyfriend to continue his harmful activities. Evidence included sexual images of children as young as two, and graphic messages in which Williams was complicit in the abuse.Surtees admitted to 16 criminal charges and was sentenced to 15 years in jail. Williams pleaded guilty to six charges and received a 10-year sentence. The court described Williams's actions as particularly heinous, noting she used her position as a primary school teacher to "titillate" Surtees. A judge remarked that she was an "intelligent young woman" with a background in crime investigation and psychology, yet still displayed a shocking lack of remorse or empathy in her pre-sentence report. The judge emphasized that both offenders were considered a "danger" and posed a "significant risk" to children in the future. As part of their sentences, they are subject to lifelong sexual harm prevention orders, notification requirements, and an extended license period of five years after the prison term ends. The court also highlighted that their relationship was troubled, involving domestic abuse and substance misuse, and that Williams had been warned by colleagues about Surtees' concerning nature. Despite her education and background, Williams actively participated in and promoted the abuse, which was seen as deeply troubling.Images of both offenders accompany the report, with Descriptions: Zoe Williams used her position as a teacher to "titillate" Surtees. Her crime has left a lasting impact on her victim's family, with the victim’s mother expressing disgust at their behaviour.
