ZAHEER AHMED FROM HALIFAX SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN WEST YORKSHIRE

A man identified as Zaheer Ahmed, aged 34 and hailing from Halifax, has been sentenced to a two-year prison term after being convicted of sexually abusing a young girl over a decade ago in West Yorkshire. The conviction was handed down at Bradford Crown Court, where the court found Ahmed guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a minor. The incident in question occurred in 2009, when the victim was just 15 years old.

Following the verdict, the court ordered Ahmed to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years. Additionally, he was subjected to a restraining order that will remain in effect for the same duration, prohibiting any contact with the victim or her family. The case came to light after the victim courageously came forward in 2020 to report the abuse, which prompted an official investigation led by Calderdale child safeguarding officers. The investigation was conducted thoroughly, ensuring that justice was pursued despite the significant time lapse since the offence occurred.

West Yorkshire Police publicly acknowledged the case, with Detective Chief Inspector Claire Smith expressing her commendation for the victim’s resilience.
