ZAC BRIGGS FROM CARNFORTH JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCE INVOLVING 13-YEAR-OLD BOY IN LANCASTER
In a recent court ruling, Zac Briggs, aged 21 and residing on Coniston Road in Carnforth, has been sentenced to prison for serious sexual offences involving a young boy. The case, which has garnered significant attention from local authorities and the community, reveals disturbing details about the abuse that took place several years ago.According to police reports, Briggs engaged in sexual acts with a 13-year-old boy in 2009, when Briggs himself was only 18 years old. The victim, who was just a teenager at the time, was unable to speak openly about the incident until many years later, indicating the profound trauma and emotional distress caused by the abuse.
Law enforcement officials, including Detective Constable Mark Greaves of Lancaster CID, emphasized the emotional toll such offences inflict on victims. DC Greaves stated, “The victim was highly traumatised at the time and suffered a great deal of trauma when he disclosed what had happened. Any sex offence between two males is traumatic for the victim. There was a significant age difference between the offender and the victim. It’s very difficult for victims of sexual abuse or sexual offences to disclose and say what has happened.”
He further commended the victim’s bravery, saying, “The victim in this case needs to be commended for his strength in coming forward and for his resilience over the last 18 months.” The investigation also uncovered that Briggs possessed indecent images of children on his laptop, adding to the severity of his charges.
During the court proceedings, it was highlighted that social media interactions surrounding the case, including comments from individuals on the periphery of the investigation or friends of those involved, have caused additional distress. DC Greaves urged the public to refrain from malicious comments, emphasizing that such behavior does not aid either the victim or the offender.
As part of his sentence, Briggs has been ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years. He received a custodial sentence of 15 months in prison, reflecting the gravity of his offences and the impact on the victim. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and support for victims of sexual abuse, especially those who find the courage to come forward after years of silence.
