YUSUF MAKDA FROM BLACKBURN SEX OFFENDER CAUGHT IN SHOCKING ASSAULT AT POLICE STATION
In October 2019, a disturbing incident unfolded in Blackburn involving Yusuf Makda, a man with a troubling history of sexual misconduct. The case came before Blackburn magistrates, revealing that Makda, aged 40 and residing in Higher Eanam, Blackburn, was involved in a serious indecent assault on a paramedic working as a police station duty nurse.
According to court proceedings, Makda initially approached the paramedic with what appeared to be a friendly gesture, extending his hand in a manner typical of a handshake.
However, as she moved to reciprocate, he unexpectedly lunged forward and forcibly grabbed her right breast, an act of sexual assault that left her visibly distressed.
This assault occurred during a medical assessment at the police station, where the paramedic was performing her duties.
The court was also informed that Makda was in custody at the time of the assault because the previous day, he had attempted to indecently assault a 19-year-old woman in Blackburn town centre.
The 19-year-old woman was accompanied by a friend when they encountered Makda, who has a known history of attacking women at random.
Initially, the young woman believed Makda to be a taxi driver, as he approached them and shook hands with her.
Prosecutor Catherine Allan detailed that after the handshake, Makda began to stroke the young woman's arm, which made her feel uncomfortable and uneasy.
He then proceeded to make inappropriate comments, insisting that she should come home with him and marry him.
The young woman and her friend attempted to walk away from Makda, but he persisted in following them.
He grabbed her arm and started pulling her, causing further alarm.
Fortunately, the young women managed to attract the attention of two community support officers, who intervened and detained Makda until police officers arrived at the scene.
Once at the police station, Makda was taken to the medical room for assessment by the duty paramedic.
It was during this medical examination that the assault occurred.
After the incident, Makda was heard to say, “sorry, sorry,” indicating some level of remorse or acknowledgment of his actions.
It was also revealed that Makda had previously been subject to a sexual harm prevention order, which was issued in 2015, highlighting a pattern of concerning behavior.
Following his conviction after a trial, Makda was sentenced to a total of 30 weeks in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for the next ten years, reflecting the serious nature of his offenses and the ongoing risk he poses to the community.
