YAN MING CHAN FROM RUNCORN JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY STASH

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Runcorn, a local man named Yan Ming Chan has been sentenced to prison after authorities uncovered a vast collection of illegal child pornography on his personal devices. The incident came to light in June of the previous year when police executed a search warrant at his residence and discovered an alarming total of 27,152 indecent images stored on his laptop computer.

Among these images, approximately 1,000 were classified as extreme in nature, indicating a particularly disturbing level of material. The investigation revealed that Chan, aged 25 and a national of Hong Kong, had been actively involved in acquiring and possessing these illicit images. He was subsequently charged with 17 counts related to child pornography and appeared before Warrington Crown Court to face justice.

During the court proceedings, Chan admitted to the charges, which led to his sentencing to a 15-month prison term. His legal situation was further complicated by the fact that he had been living in England intermittently since he was 18 years old. He had also been married to a British woman for three years, although this marriage ended following the revelation of his offences.

Judge David Hale, presiding over the case, delivered a stern warning about the severity of the crime. He stated, “No-one could look at those images without realising that children were being abused for the pleasure of those who watched it, and you deliberately watched it, deliberately put it on CDs, and obviously had considerable interest in this matter.” The judge emphasized that such offences are considered to be at the upper end of the scale in terms of seriousness.

Detective Constable Stuart McIntosh, a member of Cheshire Police’s paedophile unit, commented on the case, saying, “It was a very sound decision and we appreciate the fact it was a prompt guilty plea and sends a message out to people who dabble in this that the courts don’t look favourably upon it.” The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the distribution and possession of child exploitation material, and the serious consequences faced by those involved.
