April 2008 Man jailed for two years after abusing girl A Wirral man who sexually abused an 11-year-old girl has been jailed for two years. William Graham Wood carried out the offences seven years ago but they only came to light in February last year. 50-year-old Wood, denied the allegations but he was convicted of two offences of indecent assault after a trial by a jury at Liverpool Crown Court. Jailing him Judge Brian Lewis said that he had “seriously abused” the girl and had told her not to tell anyone as “it was their little secret”. “You have shown absolutely no remorse and her distress was apparent in the witness box,” he said. He banned him from working with children indefinitely, prohibited him from being alone with children under 16 and ordered him to sign on the Sex Offenders Register for ten years. Janet Reaney, prosecuting, told court that the offences occurred when the girl was 11 and Wood was living in Clover Drive, Birkenhead. He told her not to tell anyone and she did not do so until shortly before Christmas 2006 when she told a friend and she told her mother the following February. Wood, of Franklin Road, Leasowe, denied the allegations and his barrister, David Watson, said that Wood still maintains his innocence.
