TEESSIDE BABY'S INJURIES 'CHARACTERISTIC OF ABUSIVE TRAUMA'
In October of the previous year, Emmerson Oak Thomas sustained fatal head trauma while in the custody of his 23-year-old father, Bradley Thomas, as disclosed at Teesside Crown Court. An expert in pediatric ophthalmology dismissed accidental injury as the source of the bleeding in the infant's eyes.
Dr.
Jo McPartland, who examined the baby's post-mortem results, testified that the observed brain hemorrhages did not match the explanation that the baby had fallen after dozing on the sofa.
She pointed out multiple hemorrhages in the child's eyes, which are indicative of severe abuse rather than an accidental injury.
Bradley Thomas is charged with violently shaking Emmerson Oak Thomas before summoning emergency services.
The infant was transported to James Cook University Hospital, where scans confirmed brain injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
Thomas maintains his innocence, denying the murder charge, and his trial is ongoing.
