WILLIAM ORMANDY AND SHOCKING RAPE AT LIVERPOOL LIME STREET STATION

A disturbing case of sexual violence unfolded at Liverpool Lime Street Station when William Ormandy, aged 31, committed a heinous assault that led to his eventual conviction and imprisonment.

The incident took place during the early hours of Sunday, February 6, around 2am, when Ormandy approached an 18-year-old woman who was alone, heading towards the station's taxi rank.

According to reports, Ormandy struck up a conversation with the young woman as she was making her way to catch a taxi home.

He complimented her, saying, "you're gorgeous," and inquired about her destination while following her closely.

After some time, he asked her to give him a kiss.

The woman refused, clearly uncomfortable, and told him she just wanted to get home.

Despite her protests and her explanation that she lived with her mother and was only 18, Ormandy persisted.

He then pulled her into a nearby service alley close to Liverpool Lime Street station, continuing to press for a kiss while she begged to be released.

Realizing her safety was at risk, the woman chose to walk towards London Road in an attempt to reach another taxi rank, hoping to distance herself from Ormandy.

However, he seized the opportunity during this moment and committed a rape in that secluded area.

As she attempted to leave, Ormandy called to her, saying, "come here," but the victim managed to break free and walk away.

Ormandy then went in the opposite direction, likely attemptiing to evade arrest.

Fortunately, her distress did not go unnoticed.

Three women encountered the young woman, who was visibly upset and distressed.

She explained what had happened, and one of the women refused to leave her side, instead flagging down a taxi to take her home safely.

This brave act of kindness helped the victim escape immediate harm and provided crucial support in the aftermath of the assault.

The authorities launched a detailed investigation conducted by British Transport Police detectives to trace and apprehend the suspect.

On February 16, William Ormandy voluntarily surrendered himself at St Anne Police Station.

During questioning, he claimed that he had kissed the victim three times with her consent, denying any involvement in a rape.

His arrest marked a significant step in the case.

The trauma inflicted on the victim has had lasting repercussions.

In her victim statement, the 18-year-old described the profound impact of her assault.

She revealed that she relies on medication to sleep and that she now feels unable to leave her home unaccompanied.

She expressed ongoing fears, stating, "Since the incident I have not left the house unless I am accompanied by a family member.

I don’t like to be left alone.

I need to know where my family are at all times, and I often sleep in the same bed as my sisters." She also detailed the emotional toll, sharing that her confidence and ambitions have been severely affected.

The incident has thwarted her plans to attend university, as she has failed her recent admissions interviews, and she now faces an uncertain future.

William John Ormandy, of Derby Court, Halewood, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court via video link on March 18, where he pleaded guilty to the charge of rape.

Following this, on April 25, Judge David Potter handed down a sentence of eight years and three months in prison, complemented by an extended four-year licence period.

Additionally, Ormandy was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

In his sentencing remarks, Judge Potter acknowledged that Ormandy had deliberately targeted a vulnerable, lone woman and planned his actions carefully.

The court also heard that Ormandy has a disturbing criminal history, with thirteen convictions for twenty-nine previous offences, many involving violence against women.

It was noted that he was convicted last year of assaulting and harassing a former partner, at which time he was subject to a community order.

Despite his criminal record, Ormandy continues to pose a significant risk.

Representing Ormandy, his defence lawyer, Sarah Holt, stated that her client struggles to comprehend his own conduct and has no memory of the events.

She expressed remorse, saying, "He is ashamed of himself and says he is lost for words.

His family is devastated and does not condone his behaviour but will support him when he leaves jail." The judge, referencing his prior convictions, emphasized the worrying attitude Ormandy shows towards women in intimate relationships and noted the persistent nature of his violence.

The court also highlighted that force was used during the attack, and that Ormandy’s lack of insight into his behaviour is concerning.

Judge Potter agreed with probation officers that Ormandy represents a high risk of harm to women, whether strangers or known individuals.

Detective Inspector Granville Sellers, leading the investigation, described Ormandy as an opportunistic sexual predator who preyed on a vulnerable young woman and subjected her to a horrifying experience.

He praised the victim’s bravery in reporting the crime and assured continued support for her.

Commenting on the rarity of such crimes occurring on the railway, the officer condemned the incident and vowed that such behaviour would never be tolerated.

He also issued a stark warning to sexual predators, affirming that quick apprehension and justice will follow such vicious acts and that the police will always work tirelessly to bring offenders to justice.

This case underscores the serious consequences of violent and predatory behaviour, and the justice delivered aims to serve both as retribution and a deterrent to others who might contemplate similar crimes.
