WILLIAM MEAKIN FROM PLYMOUTH REPEATEDLY BREAKS COURT ORDERS AND ACCESSSES SWINGER SITE
In December 2016, William Meakin, a man with a troubling history linked to sexual offenses, found himself back behind bars after he was caught violating the strict court orders imposed upon him.The incident occurred when he accessed a website catering to swingers, an act that directly contravened the conditions set by the court to monitor and restrict his behavior.
William Meakin, aged 43 and formerly residing in St Budeaux, Plymouth, had previously been sentenced to serve eight years in prison for a series of sexual assaults involving a girl under the age of 16.
His criminal record also includes charges related to the possession and distribution of indecent images of children.
Upon his release from prison, authorities had placed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) on him, aimed at controlling and supervising his activities to prevent further offending.
Despite these measures, Meakin was found to have breached the terms of his court order.
He was caught using the website 'Fabswingers,' which claims to be a free platform created by a genuine swinging couple and boasts nearly 25,000 members across the UK.
The breach was confirmed when he admitted to using the site between May of the previous year and August of this year.
Additionally, he was found to be in possession of a smartphone equipped with a camera, which he used during this period, further violating the restrictions placed upon him.
Furthermore, Meakin failed to comply with the requirement to register his address with the authorities.
He admitted to staying at an address on St Mary’s Street, Stonehouse, for more than seven days within a 12-month span from February 2015 to August of this year.
This lapse in registration was another breach of the conditions designed to facilitate police monitoring of his movements.
His breaches came before Plymouth magistrates, who remanded him into custody pending sentencing.
The case was scheduled to be heard at Plymouth Crown Court, where a judge would determine the appropriate punishment for his violations.
The court proceedings highlighted the ongoing concerns about Meakin’s behavior and the potential risk he posed to the community, given his history and recent breaches.
It is important to note that Meakin’s criminal history is extensive.
In January 2011, he was sentenced to eight years in prison for multiple sexual assaults on a girl under 16.
During that sentencing, he also admitted to possessing and distributing indecent images of children, including movies and photographs of varying levels of severity.
The images depicted young girls, approximately 10 to 12 years old, in distressing sexual situations with adult men, and were intended for distribution through file-sharing systems.
The judge at that time, Judge Francis Gilbert QC, described the images as very serious and perverted, emphasizing the distress caused to the young victims.
As part of his sentence, Meakin was subjected to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order that would remain in effect indefinitely, and he was ordered to remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register until further notice from the court.
Overall, William Meakin’s case underscores the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in managing individuals with a history of sexual offenses, especially when they breach court-imposed restrictions.
His repeated violations and the nature of his offenses continue to raise concerns about community safety in Plymouth and the effectiveness of current monitoring measures.
