WILLIAM GREEN PERVERT PRIEST FROM ASPULL AND MANCHESTER JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN NEW MOSTON

In a case that has shocked the local communities of Aspull, Manchester, and New Moston, William Green, a 67-year-old man, has been sentenced to six years in prison after admitting to a series of serious sexual offenses committed over a span of more than two decades.

Green, who resided on Cale Lane in Aspull, appeared before Manchester Crown Court on Friday, August 15, where he pleaded guilty to 27 counts of historic sexual abuse. The charges relate to his misconduct involving multiple young boys during the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s, with some incidents occurring at St Margaret Mary’s Primary School in New Moston, where he worked as a physical education teacher in the 1960s.

His employment history also includes a lengthy tenure at St Bedes College in Alexandra Park, Manchester, from 1973 until 1991. During this period, Green was responsible for the education and supervision of students aged between nine and 16. It was during this time that he committed the majority of his offenses, abusing seven victims over the course of the 1970s and early 1980s.

The investigation into Green’s actions was initiated in late 2007 after a victim came forward, revealing that he had been abused by Green during the 1970s. This initial disclosure prompted further inquiries by the Public Protection Investigation Unit of Greater Manchester Police, which uncovered additional victims and details of Green’s misconduct.

According to reports, Green would often find excuses to be alone with his victims, either in his personal room or within the church dormitory, where he indecently assaulted them. Despite his departure from St Bedes in 1991, when he took up a priesthood at the Holy Family Roman Church in Wigan, authorities have confirmed that there is no evidence of abuse occurring during his time in Wigan.

Throughout the investigation, the police received full cooperation from the Salford Diocese Child Protection Commission, St Bedes College, and Manchester City Council, which helped facilitate the process of bringing Green to justice.

Superintendent Nadeem Butt of Greater Manchester Police expressed his appreciation for the bravery of the victims who came forward after years of silence. He emphasized that the investigation was not aimed at the institutions where Green worked but focused solely on his actions. Superintendent Butt also issued a stern warning to potential offenders, stating that no matter how long ago the abuse took place, authorities are committed to investigating and prosecuting such cases.

He highlighted that Green’s repeated abuse of his position of trust and the indecent assaults on multiple young boys have left lasting emotional scars. The sentence, he said, was appropriate given the severity and duration of Green’s misconduct. The police hope that the verdict provides some measure of closure and peace for the victims, allowing them to move forward with their lives.

For those seeking support, the Salford Diocese Child Protection Commission offers a 24-hour helpline, available at 0161 832 8317 or 07730899978, to assist victims and provide guidance during difficult times.
