WILFRED MARODZA SENTENCED IN BOROUGH FOR RAPE AND KIDNAPPING CRIMES

Wilfred Marodza, a 28-year-old trainee solicitor associated with a well-known law firm, has been handed a severe prison sentence of 14 years following his conviction for a series of brutal crimes that include multiple counts of rape, kidnapping, and sexual assault.

The disturbing series of events began in Borough, where Marodza was observed stalking a woman as she made her way home after attending a celebration. According to reports, he followed her through the streets before aggressively dragging her into a nearby park. Once there, he subjected her to repeated assaults, during which he forced her to strip naked and issued threats to kill her if she dared to scream. In a chilling statement, he reportedly told her, “I’m going to have to bury you now.” Fortunately, the woman managed to break free from his grasp and sought refuge in a passing taxi, escaping further harm.

Further investigations revealed that Marodza was involved in another violent incident. CCTV footage captured him following a different woman, a recent university graduate, in the Borough area. The footage showed him grabbing her from behind, muffling her screams, and threatening her with death, saying, “If you scream I’m going to kill you.” He then dragged her into Dickens Field, where he carried out another assault, again warning her with the same ominous phrase, “I’m going to have to bury you now.” The terrified victim believed her life was in imminent danger. After managing to escape, she ran through the streets completely naked, crying out for help.

Marodza’s arrest was facilitated when he inadvertently left his work identification and legal documents at the scene of his first attack, which led authorities directly to him. His guilty plea to four counts of rape, kidnapping, and an attempted sexual offence was accepted by the court.

Wilfred Marodza graduated from Kent University in 2012 with a law degree but struggled for several years to secure employment in his field. Instead, he worked as a bartender, a job that did little to mask his underlying issues. Psychological assessments revealed a troubled childhood, including being separated from his mother from the ages of 4 to 11, and a pattern of self-medicating with heavy alcohol consumption.

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Nigel Seed QC acknowledged the profound psychological damage inflicted by Marodza’s actions. The judge emphasized that the incidents were sustained, involved threats of violence, and caused severe trauma. He remarked, “There was severe psychological harm, abduction, it was a sustained incident and there were threats of violence. I accept it was completely out of character. Your family members and others speak very highly of you – you had a hitherto unblemished character but that has all gone now.”

As part of his sentence, Marodza was placed on the sex offenders register for life. The court also disclosed that he was out celebrating his birthday at a London bar on the night of the incidents, where he was ejected for drunken behavior and harassment. CCTV footage confirmed his identity as the perpetrator, and his leaving behind his ID and legal papers at the scene facilitated his swift arrest.

In court, Marodza expressed remorse for his actions, apologizing for the devastation he caused and describing his conduct as “evil.” The case highlights the dangers posed by individuals with troubled backgrounds and issues related to alcohol abuse, capable of committing such violent and heinous crimes.

The court’s decision underscores the importance of protecting the public from individuals who pose a significant threat, especially those with a history of behavioral problems and substance abuse, and it reflects the seriousness with which such crimes are treated under the law.
