WESLEY TAYLOR CAUGHT WITH NEARLY 3,000 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN REDCAR

In November 2016, a significant case involving Wesley Taylor, a 37-year-old man from Redcar, unfolded in the courts after authorities uncovered a disturbing collection of nearly 3,000 child abuse images stored on his personal electronic devices. The investigation was initiated as part of an international effort, which led police to his residence on High Street West in Redcar, where they discovered the illicit material.

During the search, officers seized five different devices, including two laptops, a computer tower, a hard drive, and a memory stick. An examination of these devices revealed a total of 2,878 indecent images, some of which depicted boys aged between 13 and 16. The images included 157 that fell into the most severe legal category, highlighting the gravity of the material found. The images ranged from still photographs to moving pictures, all of a disturbing nature.

In addition to the digital evidence, police uncovered eight printed photographs that Taylor had taken or posed for over ten years prior. These images primarily featured consenting couples over the age of consent, but some involved minors, including two photographs taken at his home showing a 15-year-old boy with his trousers down at a party. The prosecution described these as a “joke,” but emphasized their illegality due to the involvement of minors.

When questioned by authorities, Taylor admitted to being a “voyeur” with an attraction to younger males. He explained that the old photographs he had taken and developed himself were of acquaintances “messing about.” His account was part of the police interview following the seizure of his devices in January of the previous year. The investigation was triggered after information surfaced about movies ordered from a website linked to an international network, which led to the discovery of the illegal material.

Throughout the court proceedings, Taylor, who had no prior criminal record, pleaded guilty to six counts of making, taking, and possessing indecent photographs of children, as well as possessing eight images classified as extreme pornography. His defense attorney, Jeff Taylor, highlighted the defendant’s difficult early life, including experiences of bullying during his discovery of his sexuality. The lawyer described Taylor as now identifying as a “normal orientated homosexual male with normal adult tastes,” and expressed that the proceedings had been a significant blow to him, possibly representing a past he was trying to leave behind.

Jeff Taylor also noted that Wesley Taylor was honest with police, assisting them in contacting individuals depicted in the printed images and providing a detailed account of his actions. He emphasized that Taylor showed genuine remorse and was a respected hotel manager before resigning following his guilty pleas. The defense argued that Taylor was now planning to relocate to start anew.

Judge Sean Morris addressed the court, stating that although the images did not involve very young children, they still depicted minors being exploited, which was unacceptable. The judge emphasized the importance of stopping such behavior, referring to the victims involved. He assessed Taylor as a low risk of reoffending, noting that he had not attempted to distribute or share the images with others.

As part of his sentence, Taylor was given a two-year prison term, suspended for two years, with the condition of supervision. The judge also ordered him to be on the sex offender register for ten years and imposed a five-year sexual harm prevention order. The judge concluded that these measures, combined with the suspended sentence, constituted an appropriate punishment, addressing both the severity of the offense and the need for public protection.
