WAYNE JONES AND SHOCKING CRIMES IN LIVERPOOL AND RUNCORN

Wayne Jones, a 34-year-old man with a long history of violent and criminal behavior, was recently apprehended after a series of disturbing incidents in Liverpool and Runcorn.

His arrest followed a series of alarming online communications and a violent domestic assault, revealing a pattern of dangerous conduct.

The sequence of events began with Jones engaging in a highly inappropriate and illegal online conversation with an undercover police officer.

Posing as a 13-year-old girl, the officer encountered Jones on social media platforms such as Kik Messenger and Snapchat.

Under the pseudonym "JohnJones," Jones initially claimed to be 32 years old and expressed interest in illicit activities.

During the exchanges, he asked the undercover officer, who claimed to be 13, why she was on such platforms, indicating a disturbing awareness of the danger involved.

Jones’s online behavior escalated over the following weeks.

He returned to contact the officer three weeks later, in February, and sent a graphic photograph of his genitals.

Law enforcement officials were able to identify him through distinctive features such as a watch and a tattoo on his left wrist, which matched the images on his phone.

Despite claiming ignorance about the girl’s age and denying any knowledge of the explicit images, Jones continued to pursue contact.

On Valentine’s Day, February 14, Jones made further attempts to communicate via Snapchat, where he immediately asked for explicit pictures.

When the girl refused, he deleted her from his contacts.

Undeterred, he later messaged her again on Kik, asking to see her genitals and perform sexual acts, and also requested photographs of her breasts.

When she rebuffed these advances, Jones called her a “weirdo” and told her to “f*** off.” Nevertheless, a few days later, he made another explicit request.

The police investigation linked Jones’s online accounts to his then-partner’s address in Runcorn.

At the time, his partner was hospitalized, which complicated the investigation.

During a routine welfare check, officers discovered Jones hiding in a cupboard behind a wardrobe in a rear bedroom of the property.

On his phone, they found the explicit photograph of himself, along with screenshots of the messages exchanged, despite his efforts to delete the apps.

The phone also contained files indicating that Kik and Snapchat had been previously installed.

In addition to the online misconduct, Jones’s violent behavior came to light through a separate incident in Runcorn on March 25 of the previous year.

His then-partner, whose name has not been disclosed, confronted him after discovering content on his phone that questioned his sexuality.

This confrontation quickly turned violent.

Jones, in a fit of rage, jumped on her, kneeling on her legs and shouting in her face, leaving her unable to move.

During the struggle, she managed to grab his T-shirt, possibly scratching him in her attempt to escape.

Jones responded by elbowing her in the face, which caused her glasses to be knocked off.

The victim was left visibly injured, with bruises on her nose, left eye, arms, and legs, and a bleeding lip.

She was so distressed that she cried and described feeling unable to breathe out of her nose.

The incident was reported during a welfare visit a few days later, leading to Jones’s arrest.

He pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), specifically on the basis that he did not bite her.

The victim’s personal statement revealed the profound impact of the assault.

She described realizing she was a victim of domestic violence and reflected on how her experience seemed unreal, like a scene from a film.

Despite having completed numerous domestic violence courses in the past, she admitted that the assault finally made everything “sink in” and questioned why she had protected Jones for so long.

She now suffers from panic attacks, PTSD, and night terrors, which have forced her to move away from her friends and family and to avoid social outings.

She expressed relief at having spoken out, stating, “I’m glad I’ve spoken up.” Jones’s criminal record is extensive, with 22 convictions for 34 offenses, including multiple robberies, affray, burglaries (both dwelling and non-dwelling), ABH assaults, criminal damage, exposure, possession of ketamine, and possession of prohibited items in prison.

His latest sentence involved an eight-month term for possessing a mobile phone while incarcerated, handed down in April of the previous year.

During the court proceedings, his defense attorney, James Preece, highlighted Jones’s guilty pleas to the charges of attempted sexual communication and ABH, noting that he had no prior convictions related to child sex offenses or domestic violence.

Preece argued that the injuries inflicted were not severe and that the victim’s statement described conduct beyond the scope of the charges he was convicted of, with other charges being left on file.

He acknowledged that the court would likely impose consecutive sentences for the different offenses and appealed to the principle of totality, emphasizing Jones’s struggles with mental health and low mood, partly due to the shame of his convictions.

Preece also mentioned that Jones, a father of three and former joinery worker, was “embarrassed” by his criminal record and found it difficult to cope with his incarceration.

He recounted that Jones was assaulted in prison by two men wielding a broom handle after admitting guilt, which resulted in injuries including black eyes, bleeding, and a facial gash.

Ultimately, Judge David Potter sentenced Jones to a total of two years and two months in prison.

Additionally, Jones was placed on the sex offenders register for ten years, subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and a lengthy restraining order was issued to protect his former partner.

In his remarks, the judge described the relationship as “toxic” and “troubled from day one,” emphasizing the lasting trauma inflicted on the victim.

Addressing the domestic assault, Judge Potter stated, “She now suffers from panic attacks and PTSD from the trauma she’s been put through and as a result of the assault had to leave her home area and start again with no friends or family.

This relationship is thankfully at an end and there will be a lengthy restraining order imposed today.” The judge also summarized the chronology of the online misconduct, noting Jones’s persistent denial of responsibility and his attempt to blame the victim for the messages and images.

Despite his denials, the evidence clearly linked him to the accounts and the explicit content, leading to his conviction.
