March 2018 Paedophile who preyed on young girls is finally brought to justice A sex beast who preyed on young girls for thirty years has finally been brought to justice. Police describe Wayne Greentree, 50 as a ‘predator’ and an ‘opportunist’ who caused ‘unimaginable pain’ to his victims. In a statement, one of them told how Greentree had taken from her ‘the most precious thing a child has…  innocence.’ The Salford man has now been locked up for 20 years at Manchester Crown Court. He originally denied the offences, but four days into his trial he admitted 18 charges, including child rape, attempted child rape, and indecent assault of children. The court heard the offences were committed against four victims between the late 1970s and 2009. Two of the victims made complaints in 1996. They were investigated and Greentree was charged in relation to one of them. But the case did not proceed due to the victim withdrawing her complaint. But, in 2016, another of the victims came forward and police spoke to the other three, and prepared a file for the Crown Prosecution Service, who went ahead with the case. Retail worker Greentree, from Ordsall, pleaded guilty to one charge of rape, fifteen charges of indecent assault, one of attempted rape and one of sexual assault. Detective Constable Victoria Burgess, who investigated the case, said: “The victims were extremely courageous in standing up to Greentree and making him face what he had done to them, when he finally admitted what he is and the true extent of what he did. The abuse has caused them unimaginable pain, anguish and long lasting harm. They have been truly brave throughout this ordeal. “The offences span from 1979 to 2009, so 30 years of offending. Greentree is a sexual predator and an opportunist who would prey on vulnerable girls. He is an extremely dangerous individual. “We have dedicated specialist officers who are there to listen to victims and make their voices be heard. They can speak out, with no judgement, and will be provided with the relevant support they may need from both police and other agencies. By coming forward and reporting this to police they could potentially encourage other victims of sexual offences to have the strength to come forward.” Greentree has been made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order indefinitely and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
