WAQAR AHMED FROM BRADFORD AND OLDHAM JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In a case that has shocked the local communities of Bradford and Oldham, Waqar Ahmed, a 30-year-old man, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activities with a minor. The incident came to light after the young girl, aged just 14, was discovered to have been involved in a series of inappropriate encounters with Ahmed during a period when she was supposed to be attending school.

According to court records, Ahmed, who originally resided in Bradford before relocating to Lincoln Street in Oldham, began his inappropriate relationship with the teenager during the summer holidays of 2010. The court heard that the pair continued their illicit meetings into the start of the new school term, despite her being truant from her classes. The prosecution revealed that Ahmed had pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual activity with a child, with the offences spanning from August to September of that year.

Prosecutor Hilary Manley informed the court that the police were alerted to the situation after the girl’s school contacted authorities. During police interviews, Ahmed claimed he believed the girl was 16 years old, a statement that was contradicted by the evidence presented. It was established that the girl would visit Ahmed’s residence, sometimes accompanied by another girl and a boy, and that sexual encounters occurred upstairs at his home. The girl believed these encounters had taken place approximately 12 times, although the exact number could not be definitively confirmed.

Further evidence was presented in the form of Facebook photographs, which showed the girl believing she was in a romantic relationship with Ahmed. The court was told that Ahmed had no prior criminal record and that he had since married, with his wife present in court to support him during the proceedings. Despite his guilty plea on the day of trial, the offences dated back 18 months, indicating a prolonged period of misconduct.

Judge Peter Benson addressed Ahmed directly, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. He pointed out that Ahmed was 29 at the time, making him 15 years older than the young girl. The judge remarked that it should have been obvious to Ahmed that the girl was underage and that, as an adult, he bore the responsibility to verify her age before engaging in any sexual activity. The judge also highlighted the importance of protecting young girls from predatory behavior by adults in their late twenties or older.

In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Benson imposed a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which prohibits Ahmed from having any contact with the girl and restricts any unsupervised contact with children unless their parents are present. Furthermore, Ahmed was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to prevent further harm.
