VYTAUTAS AUSROTA FROM PLYMOUTH INVOLVED IN BRUTAL ATTACK NEAR LYME REGIS
In March 2021, a disturbing incident unfolded involving Vytautas Ausrota, a man from Plymouth, that drew significant attention from local authorities and the community alike.The events took place along the scenic South West Coast Path near Lyme Regis, where a woman in her 50s from Surrey was walking peacefully when her routine stroll was violently interrupted.
It was approximately 3 pm on Saturday, August 29, 2020, when the victim heard hurried footsteps approaching from behind.
Suddenly, she was confronted by a man who aggressively rugby tackled her to the ground.
The assailant, later identified as Vytautas Ausrota, then knelt on top of her, exerting physical dominance in a frightening assault.
The woman, in a state of shock and fear, observed that Ausrota was wielding an orange penknife with the blade extended, adding a dangerous element to the attack.
During the assault, Ausrota issued a chilling threat, stating, “I will kill you,” while simultaneously expressing his intent to sexually assault her.
The victim, overwhelmed and desperate for help, managed to call out to two members of the public nearby, seeking their assistance.
The bystanders responded promptly, warning Ausrota that they would contact the police if he did not cease his actions and leave the woman alone.
Realizing that his threats and actions had been noticed, Ausrota got up and fled the scene.
The victim was left shaken but physically unharmed, and emergency services were immediately alerted.
A search operation was launched in the area to locate the suspect, with police officers scouring the vicinity for any sign of him.
Later that evening, after 8:08 pm, Ausrota made contact with Dorset Police, confessing to the attack in Lyme Regis.
During the call, he admitted to having assaulted the woman and was aware that officers were actively searching for him.
Following this admission, police officers tracked him down and arrested him in Broad Street, Plymouth.
Vytautas Ausrota faced multiple charges, including threatening with an offensive weapon, attempting to commit a sexual offence, and assault by beating.
He pleaded guilty to all charges, acknowledging his guilt in a court hearing.
The court subsequently sentenced him to a total of three years and four months in prison.
Additionally, Ausrota was placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for an indefinite period, restricting his future conduct and contact.
As part of the sentencing, he was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £190.
This case highlights the serious nature of violent and sexual offences and underscores the importance of swift police action and community vigilance in ensuring public safety.
