VJACESLAVS POPLAVSKIS SHOCKS EYEMOUTH AND TWEEDBANK WITH SEX ACT IN FRONT OF TEEN GIRLS

In October 2014, a disturbing incident occurred involving Vjaceslavs Poplavskis, a man with connections to both Eyemouth and Tweedbank, which has since garnered significant attention from local authorities and the community alike.

Poplavskis, aged 30 at the time, was found to have committed a serious sexual offense at the seafront in Eyemouth. According to reports, he exposed himself and performed a sexual act in front of three teenage girls, shocking witnesses and raising alarm among residents. The incident took place during a period when Poplavskis was reportedly experiencing marital difficulties and was under the influence of alcohol, which may have contributed to his behavior.

At the time of the offense, Poplavskis was residing at Carlin Court in Tweedbank, having previously lived on High Street in Eyemouth. The details of the case were brought before Duns Sheriff Court, where it was revealed that among the three girls present, one was only 13 years old, while the other two were 14. The severity of the offense was underscored by the fact that it was only brought to light after one of the girls confided in a youth worker at her secondary school, prompting an investigation.

During the court proceedings, Poplavskis’s defense lawyer, Rory Bannerman, stated that his client accepted responsibility for his actions. However, he also emphasized that Poplavskis denied any attraction towards younger girls, attempting to mitigate the seriousness of the offense. Despite this, the court took a firm stance on the matter.

Sheriff Kevin Drummond decided to defer sentencing until December 3, allowing time for background reports to be prepared. In addition, he ordered that Poplavskis’s name be entered into the Sex Offenders Register for a period of five years, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions related to his conduct.
