VINCENT GLAZZARD FROM DARFIELD SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS IN SOUTH YORKSHIRE

In December 2014, Vincent Glazzard, a man residing in Darfield near Barnsley, was sentenced to 14 years in prison after being convicted of committing a series of heinous sexual offences against two young girls, both of whom were only nine years old at the time the abuse began. The lengthy investigation and subsequent trial revealed a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior that spanned over a decade, leaving a trail of trauma and suffering for the victims involved.

Glazzard, aged 49 at the time of sentencing, faced a total of eleven charges related to sexual misconduct, including three counts of rape of a girl under 16, four counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14, two counts of indecent assault on a girl under 16, as well as charges of sexual activity and sexual assault involving a girl under 16. Despite the overwhelming evidence presented during the trial, he was acquitted of five other charges brought against him.

Throughout the two-week trial at Sheffield Crown Court, Glazzard maintained his innocence, denying all allegations and attempting to shift blame onto his victims. His refusal to accept responsibility forced the victims to relive their traumatic experiences repeatedly during the court proceedings, adding to their emotional distress.

Detective Inspector John Fitzgibbons, who led the police investigation into the case, expressed his condemnation of Glazzard’s actions. He stated, “Words cannot begin to describe the abhorrent actions of Glazzard and the suffering his victims have endured. His crimes against them were absolutely appalling.” He further criticized Glazzard’s attitude, noting, “He has consistently denied the offences and sought to shift blame onto his victims for making accusations against him.”

Inspector Fitzgibbons also praised the resilience of the victims and witnesses, acknowledging the emotional toll of the investigation. “As a result of this, they had to undergo the harrowing ordeal of reliving their experiences during the trial. I would like to praise the victims and witnesses in this case for their strength and fortitude throughout this two-year-long investigation,” he said. “I can only hope they feel justice has been served for the distress and anguish he will have caused them, and that they now have some closure knowing he is behind bars.”
