VICTOR SAMBOU SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN MAIDENHEAD

A man accused of committing a brutal sexual assault in Maidenhead has been formally sentenced to a lengthy prison term following a meticulously conducted investigation and subsequent trial. Victor Sambou, aged 44 and residing on Griffin Close in Maidenhead, was handed down a sentence of nine years’ imprisonment at Reading Crown Court on October 11.

This case stems from a highly troubling incident that took place on July 4, which culminated in a criminal trial lasting six days. The jury, after careful consideration of all evidence presented, reached a unanimous verdict of guilt, finding Sambou guilty on two counts of rape. As a consequence of his conviction, he will also be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life, a legal obligation mandated by the severity of his crimes.

The origins of this distressing case trace back to a social encounter in Maidenhead in 2019, where Sambou met the victim, a woman in her twenties, alongside her friends during a night out. Following their socializing and presumably shared drinks, Sambou provided transportation for the group, giving them a lift back to the victim’s residence at the end of the evening.

The ordeal took a dark turn after the group dispersed. According to court proceedings, shortly after everyone had left and the victim had fallen asleep, Sambou returned to her residence approximately an hour later. Disregarding any boundaries or consent, he unlawfully entered her home by climbing through her bedroom window. Once inside, he committed the assault which has brought him under criminal scrutiny.

The following day, law enforcement officers apprehended Sambou and charged him with his serious offences. The charges were formally laid on June 23, 2021, and the case subsequently made its way through the judicial process. Detective Constable Alexandra Beever, who led the investigation from Maidenhead police station, expressed her sentiments regarding the outcome, saying, “I am pleased that after a lengthy investigation, Sambou has been brought to justice after committing such a sickening and serious attack. I’d like to thank the victim for her support throughout this investigation and her bravery in coming forward.”

Detective Beever further emphasized the commitment of Thames Valley Police to addressing sexual offences with seriousness and dedication, assuring the public that all reports of sexual assault and rape are taken earnestly and that justice will be pursued diligently in every case brought before them.
