VICTOR GIBBONS CAUGHT WITH HUNDREDS OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN COLCHESTER
In July 2015, authorities conducted a detailed search at the residence of Victor Gibbons, a 48-year-old man residing on Shrubland Road in Colchester.The operation was initiated after law enforcement received credible information indicating that Gibbons's IP address had been used to access and download a significant number of indecent images depicting children.
The police's swift response led to the discovery of over 600 such illicit images stored on his computer system.
During the subsequent investigation, Gibbons was confronted with the evidence and subsequently admitted to the possession and creation of indecent images of minors.
The police found a total of 680 images on his tower computer, categorized into different levels based on their severity.
Among these, 99 images were classified as Level A, indicating the most serious category, while 39 were Level B, and the remaining 542 fell into Level C, the lowest severity category.
The case was brought before the court, where prosecutor Daniel Taylor outlined the disturbing details of the findings.
Gibbons faced charges related to the possession of indecent images of children, which he admitted to during the proceedings.
In sentencing, the judge imposed a 13-month prison term, but this was suspended for 18 months, meaning Gibbons would not serve time unless he committed another offense within that period.
Additionally, he was ordered to complete a 60-day rehabilitation activity program aimed at addressing underlying issues related to his offending behavior.
Mark Roochove, representing Gibbons, emphasized that his client had no prior criminal record.
He also noted that Gibbons’s family was aware of the court proceedings and the charges he faced.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about the possession and distribution of child exploitation material and the importance of law enforcement efforts to combat such crimes in communities like Colchester.
