VALMIKI RAMPERSAD FROM MORDEN SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES ON TEEN DATING SITE
In a disturbing case that highlights the dangers lurking on online platforms, Valmiki Rampersad, a 47-year-old resident of Morden, has been convicted and sentenced for a series of heinous crimes involving the exploitation of vulnerable children.The offences took place between October 2017 and September 2018, during which Rampersad engaged in a calculated and malicious campaign to target minors through a popular social networking website known as Mylol.com, a platform specifically designed for teen dating and social interaction.
Rampersad, instead of using his real identity, created an astonishing 78 fake profiles portraying himself as a teenage boy.
These false identities served as a gateway for him to establish contact with young children, specifically targeting 21 victims aged between 13 and 15 years old.
His method involved befriending these minors online, gaining their trust, and then engaging them in highly inappropriate and explicit conversations.
Under the guise of these elaborate aliases, Rampersad engaged in sexting, fantasy role-play, and live webcam chats, all of which are deeply concerning activities that exploit the innocence of young children.
His actions were part of a deliberate pattern aimed at sexual exploitation, and his online activities were eventually uncovered by law enforcement authorities.
In December 2017, detectives executed a warrant at Rampersad’s residence on Tudor Drive.
During the search, they seized multiple electronic devices, which were later examined for evidence.
Two days following the search, Rampersad was arrested and taken into custody.
His subsequent court proceedings revealed the extent of his criminal conduct.
At Croydon Crown Court, Rampersad pleaded guilty to a total of 26 charges.
These included four counts of causing or inciting a girl aged between 13 and 15 to engage in sexual activity, 21 counts of engaging in sexual communication with a child, and one count of making indecent photographs of a child.
His guilty plea underscores the severity of his actions and the premeditated nature of his offending.
On Thursday, January 23, Rampersad was sentenced to six years in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to be placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the public from further harm.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by online predators and the importance of vigilance when it comes to safeguarding children in digital spaces.
