VALERIJS GORDIJS RELEASED IN ERROR IN HULL: CONVICTED PAEDOPHILE REGAINED FREEDOM AND RECAPTURED
In a startling administrative mistake, Valerijs Gordijis, a 46-year-old man with a criminal record for sexual offences against children, was mistakenly released onto the streets of Hull on Monday, November 18, 2019.The incident has raised serious concerns about the procedures and safeguards in place within the prison system.
Gordijis had been serving a sentence at HMP Hull, a high-security prison in the city, for crimes involving sexual misconduct with minors.
His release was scheduled as part of the usual process, but due to an apparent administrative error, he was released prematurely and without the proper clearance.
The Ministry of Justice later confirmed that his release was an error, emphasizing that such incidents are exceedingly rare but taken very seriously.

His recapture was confirmed by the Ministry of Justice, which stated that he was to have attended an immigration centre but was mistakenly released instead.
A prison service spokesperson explained, “Valerijs Gordijis was released in error from HMP Hull yesterday but has since been recaptured.
Releases in error are very rare but we take them extremely seriously and are working closely with police to bring offenders back into custody quickly.” This incident underscores the importance of rigorous checks and procedures within the criminal justice system, especially when dealing with offenders who pose a significant risk to public safety.
