MAN WHO ATTACKED PARTNER OVER BISCUITS AND ABUSED PROBATION OFFICER BACK IN COURT
A man who attacked his partner when a male neighbour borrowed some biscuits has appeared in court again after abusing his probation officer.The victim was assaulted by Umar Shahzad at her home on June 22 last year.
Probation officer Karen Ledger told Kirklees magistrates: "They were drinking and socialising in the kitchen." "A male neighbour came into the house to get some biscuits and this caused an argument between Mr Shahzad and the victim.
"He's abusive towards her and she tells him to leave but he refuses, grabbing and pushing her about her upper body." The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to common assault in September last year.
He was banned from contacting the victim as part of a restraining order and sentenced to a community order.
This included rehabilitation activities but he missed appointments on November 5 last year and January 31 this year.
Shahzad, of Headfield Road in Dewsbury, attended his induction appointment where the rules and requirements of the order were explained to him.
A warrant for his arrest was issued when he missed the appointments and he was abusive towards his offender manager when told about this.
Magistrates were told that Shahzad, who suffers from mental health issues, lost his temper when learning about his arrest when he missed court previously.
Although he couldn't recall exactly what he said, he admitted making racially-charged comments and said he felt horrified at his behaviour.
Shahzad pleaded guilty to breaching the requirements of a community order.
Magistrates revoked his existing order and re-sentenced him to a 12 month community order with 30 days of rehabilitation activities.
Chairman of the bench Wayne Perriman told him: "We know you are unwell and have got problems but use it (the court order) to help you." Shahzad was told to pay £50 prosecution costs.
