TYRONE THEOBALD SENTENCED IN SCUNTHORPE FOR SEXUAL ACTIVITY WITH TEENAGE GIRL
In July 2019, a man from Scunthorpe was sentenced to prison after engaging in a sexual relationship with a teenage girl, an act that has sparked significant concern within the community. The individual, identified as Tyrone Theobald, aged 33 and residing on Somerby Road in Scunthorpe, admitted to having sexual contact with the girl between November 1, 2017, and February 15 of the following year.
According to the prosecution, represented by Craig Lowe, Theobald developed a close relationship with the young girl, which eventually led to a sexual relationship.
Despite knowing that the girl was underage, Theobald continued to pursue this inappropriate relationship.
Court proceedings revealed that the pair had sexual encounters on two separate occasions.
Furthermore, Theobald was found to possess five intimate photographs of the girl stored on his mobile phone, raising further concerns about his conduct.
The girl’s mother became aware of the situation and promptly reported her suspicions to the police.
Following this, Theobald voluntarily surrendered himself to law enforcement authorities.
During police interviews, Theobald claimed he could not recall the exact number of times he had engaged in sexual activity with the girl, but the court accepted the prosecution’s assertion that there were two such instances.
It was noted that the girl did not wish to support the prosecution’s case, a detail that was acknowledged during the proceedings.
The defense, represented by Andrew Bailey, highlighted that Theobald had made admissions regarding his actions and emphasized that he did not attempt to manipulate or deceive the legal process.
Bailey described the relationship as “grossly inappropriate,” underscoring the severity of the misconduct.
Prior to this incident, Theobald had no previous criminal convictions.
However, the consequences of his actions extended beyond the courtroom; he lost his employment with a delivery company after the offence was disclosed.
The court ultimately sentenced him to two years and eight months in prison.
Additionally, Theobald was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, a measure intended to monitor and prevent further offenses.
This case has drawn attention to the importance of safeguarding minors and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address and prevent such predatory behavior within communities like Scunthorpe.
