TYLER RICHARDS FROM CARDIFF THREATENS EX-GIRLFRIEND AND HER FAMILY FROM PRISON
A man named Tyler Richards, aged 26, who is currently incarcerated, has been implicated in a disturbing series of threatening and aggressive communications originating from HM Prison Parc in Bridgend. Richards, serving an eight-year sentence for wounding, engaged in four malicious phone calls during his detention, in which he issued violent threats against his former partner and her new companion. He explicitly stated his intention to kill his ex-girlfriend and harm her new partner, vowing to 'beat the life' out of her. These threatening calls were made from prison, with the first three occurring on February 25 and a subsequent call on March 2. All these communications were recorded by prison authorities. During a court hearing conducted via videolink from HMP Oakwood in Staffordshire, Richards was observed shouting angrily and displaying clear dissatisfaction with the proceedings. Prosecutor Eugene Egan detailed the nature of Richards' threats, emphasizing the seriousness of his intentions.
It was revealed that Richards believed his ex-girlfriend was seeing another man, which he perceived as a threat to his relationship and his role as a father. He also expressed hostility towards her family, specifically threatening her mother and her son with death, stating he would 'do the rest of his life in jail' if he carried out these threats. Richards further warned that he would 'bullet' her new partner upon his release from prison.
In addition to these threats, Richards contacted a man named Richard, instructing him to 'get it done' against his ex-girlfriend’s house and her head. His final recorded call was particularly menacing, where he threatened to 'have you c***s shot,' indicating a willingness to use violence against his ex and her family members.
Richards has a documented history of criminal behavior, including battery and assault on a police officer. The court, presided over by Judge Neil Bidder QC, responded by issuing a restraining order that prohibits Richards from contacting his ex-girlfriend or her mother for a period of ten years. The judge acknowledged that Richards' mental health had been impacted by prison conditions but stressed that his threats were serious and must be taken seriously, regardless of his previous apologies.
As part of his sentencing, Richards was sentenced to an additional 12 months in prison, to be served consecutively with his existing sentence. During the sentencing, Richards muttered that the punishment was 'f*****g pathetic.' The court emphasized that although no physical harm was inflicted, the threats caused significant fear and distress to the victims. It was also noted that Richards' actions did not appear to be motivated by a desire to harm his daughter.
Following the sentencing, the judge indicated that there might be an application to review the restraining order after Richards' release, considering the severity of his threats and behavior.
