SENIOR HOTEL EMPLOYEE ON SEX OFFENDER REGISTER EMPLOYED AT CREST HOTELS
A hotel chain employed a man with a conviction for child abuse in a senior position.Mark Bishop, who is believed to have used the alias Mark Wylde, received a suspended jail sentence in 2018 after admitting to three counts of possessing indecent images of minors.
For over a year, Bishop served as the group director responsible for guest experience at Crest Hotels, which operates nine properties across the UK.
He has played a significant role in managing the Imperial Hotel in Tenby, Pembrokeshire.
We understand that some staff members recently discovered his criminal history and raised their concerns with the company's management.
A whistleblower reached out to WalesOnline, claiming that Crest was not addressing staff concerns appropriately.
They alleged that the managing director, Jason Hiley, told staff “it’s all fine and if we have an issue then it is our problem.” A day after we contacted Crest for a statement, the company responded, saying: “In line with our established procedures, we have initiated an internal review, and the individual is not currently performing duties for the company.” At the time of his case at Cardiff Crown Court, Bishop was a 39-year-old living in Cardiff, employed as a youth offending service manager for the Vale of Glamorgan council.
Following his guilty plea to three counts of possessing indecent images, he was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for 18 months, and was issued a five-year order to prevent sexual harm.
He was also placed on the sex offender register for a decade.
The Crest whistleblower expressed concern: “He is on the sex offender register, and we have children on site constantly.
I am worried about their safety.” “Crest owns many family-friendly hotels nationwide, and we are being instructed to stay silent and not raise awareness about his past.
This is unacceptable.” “I am genuinely concerned about the safety of the Tenby community.
How can a company allow a convicted sex offender to be alone in a hotel where children are present?”
