MAN WHO ASSAULTED AND THREATENED TO KILL WOMAN JAILED
A man convicted of serious violence and threats against his former partner has been sentenced to prison.
Tyler Cooke, aged 23, subjected the woman to a brutal ordeal that lasted several hours, during which he threatened her with a knife, physically assaulted her, and attempted to strangle her.
During the incident, he also pinned her to the ground.
Police arrived at an address on Blidworth Close in Strelley around 10am on 4 August after the victim contacted authorities for assistance via a text message.
Following Cooke's removal from the residence, officers supported the victim as she provided a detailed account of the assault.
She recounted that around 1.30pm on the previous day, Cooke had threatened her with a kitchen knife and warned her against trying to leave.
Cooke then restrained her by grabbing her wrists and kneeling on her to keep her pinned down.
The next morning, shortly before police intervention, he struck her around the head with a TV remote control.
Initially denying the allegations, Cooke later admitted to charges of making threats to kill, assault by beating, and intentional strangulation.
He also confessed to possessing cannabis.
At Nottingham Crown Court on Monday, Cooke was sentenced to three years in prison for his actions.
