TREVOR WILSON SCUNTHORPE SEX OFFENDER TARGETS VICTIM AGAIN AFTER SLEEPING

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Scunthorpe, Trevor Wilson, a 67-year-old man residing on Warwick Road, was found guilty of a serious sexual assault that took place between January 1 and August 31, 2015. The incident involved Wilson taking advantage of a woman who was under the influence of medication and had fallen asleep, only to wake up to find him engaging in an intimate act.

Prosecutor Gordon Stables addressed the court at Grimsby Crown Court, revealing that Wilson was not a stranger to the victim. In fact, he had previously been convicted of four separate indecent assaults on the same woman. These prior convictions resulted in an 18-month prison sentence handed down at York Crown Court in October 1991. The repeated nature of his offenses underscored a troubling pattern of predatory behavior towards the same individual.

The court heard that during the incident, the victim was heavily medicated, which caused her to lose consciousness. She later awoke to find Wilson intimately kissing her, an act that left her visibly distressed. Mr. Stables described her reaction, stating, “She was very upset,” and noted that Wilson was apologizing to her at the time. The victim was overwhelmed, bursting into tears and experiencing panic and worry about what had transpired.

Following the assault, the victim confided in a female vicar about the incident, indicating the emotional trauma she endured. In mitigation, David Godfrey, representing Wilson, emphasized that his client had shown remorse for his actions. He suggested that there was a possibility for Wilson to reflect on his behavior and potentially change in the future.

Mr. Godfrey stated, “He wants to have some insight into why he has offended again,” and added that Wilson was “utterly ashamed of what he has done and understands the effect it has had on her.” He further expressed Wilson’s desire to formally apologize, emphasizing his deep remorse.

In sentencing, Recorder Caroline Wigin sentenced Wilson to six and a half years in prison. Additionally, she imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, requiring Wilson to register as a sex offender for life. The court’s decision reflected the serious nature of his offenses and the profound impact they had on the victim. Recorder Wigin concluded by stating, “This has had a most profound effect upon this young woman,” highlighting the lasting trauma inflicted by Wilson’s actions in the town of Scunthorpe.
