TREVOR WILKINSON FROM ST BEES ADMITS TO 33 SEX OFFENCES INCLUDING THREE RAPE CASES IN CARLISLE
In a significant development at Carlisle Crown Court, Trevor Wilkinson, a 51-year-old man residing in the St Bees area, has pleaded guilty to an extensive series of sexual offences, which include three counts of rape. The court proceedings revealed the gravity and breadth of Wilkinson’s criminal conduct, which spanned over multiple categories of sexual crimes.Wilkinson’s admission came during a hearing where he was presented with a total of 33 charges related to sexual misconduct. These charges encompass not only the three rapes but also seven serious sexual assaults. Some of these assaults allegedly involved victims who were not conscious at the time, raising serious concerns about the nature of these crimes. In addition to these offences, Wilkinson faced six counts of voyeurism, indicating a pattern of invasive and illegal voyeuristic behavior.
The court also heard about 17 other offences, primarily linked to Wilkinson’s possession of a large collection of child abuse images. The police investigation uncovered that Wilkinson had stored hundreds of such images, some of which were classified as extremely depraved. Specifically, two of the offences involved the possession of extreme pornography, which Wilkinson was found to have on March 15 of the same year.
During the hearing, Wilkinson, who has worked as a scaffolder at Sellafield, chose to speak only to confirm his identity and to enter his guilty pleas to all charges. His silence was noted, but his admissions were clear and unequivocal.
Prosecutor Tim Evans provided details of the police search of Wilkinson’s property, including a bike shed where computer discs containing illicit material were discovered. Among these were images categorized as level 5, the most depraved classification, indicating the severity of the material Wilkinson possessed. The police found that Wilkinson had in his possession 926 indecent still images of children, classified as the second most serious category, along with 55 moving images of children under 13 years old, also in the same severe category.
The prosecution indicated that at the upcoming sentencing hearing, they would argue that one of Wilkinson’s victims was likely drugged during the assault, suggesting an attempt to facilitate or enhance the abuse. However, Brendan Burke, representing Wilkinson, strongly contested this claim, asserting that Wilkinson maintains he did not drug any victim.
Judge Peter Hughes QC decided to adjourn the sentencing until August 5, during which a pre-sentence report will be prepared. The judge indicated that the report would help determine the length of Wilkinson’s custodial sentence, which is expected to be lengthy given the nature of the crimes. The judge also mentioned the possibility of holding a separate hearing to assess the prosecution’s claim regarding drug use during the assaults.
Until the sentencing date, Wilkinson was remanded in custody, ensuring he remains detained while the court considers the full extent of his sentencing. The case highlights the serious concerns surrounding child exploitation and the importance of rigorous law enforcement efforts to address such heinous crimes.
