WAKEFIELD MAN TREVOR SNOWDON SENTENCED FOR ABUSE IN ALEXANDRIA
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities of Alexandria and Wakefield, Trevor Snowdon, a 51-year-old man originally from Wakefield, was convicted and sentenced for heinous acts of sexual abuse against two teenage girls in Alexandria.Snowdon’s crimes came to light after the mother of one of the victims, who has chosen to remain anonymous for legal reasons, confronted him about the allegations. The mother recounted the harrowing experience of discovering her daughter had been molested, which prompted her to question Snowdon directly. According to her account, the confrontation quickly turned violent, revealing Snowdon’s true nature as a “violent beast.”
She described how Snowdon’s demeanor changed drastically during the confrontation. “He turned into a complete madman when I confronted him,” she said. “His face just went blank and he made me repeat myself, then suddenly he punched me. I was in a terrible state, terrified, trying to get away from him as quickly as possible. He was like a violent beast. I knew right away that it was true, he was just a complete fiend. There was no doubt in my mind that he did it.”
Snowdon’s criminal activities involved preying on two 14-year-old girls, with the abuse occurring over a period of more than two years. The first girl was repeatedly assaulted at a house in Alexandria, while the second girl was victimized both at the same Alexandria residence and at a separate location in Garelochhead. The assaults included attempts to induce sexual acts, entering the girls’ beds while they were asleep, removing their nightwear, and simulating sexual activity with both victims.
Following the mother’s confrontation and subsequent violence, Snowdon was arrested and brought before Dumbarton Sheriff Court. During the trial, the two young victims were compelled to give evidence, a process that their mother described as something they would “never forget.” Despite Snowdon’s attempts to deny the allegations, the jury found him guilty of all charges.
In sentencing last week, Snowdon received a total of 54 months in prison—24 months for the abuse of the first girl and 30 months for the assault on the second. Additionally, he was fined £400 for the assault on the mother of one of the victims, who was punched during the confrontation. Snowdon was also placed on the sex offenders register for life, ensuring he will be monitored and restricted from reoffending.
The mother expressed relief that justice has been served. “I feel like justice has been served. He is behind bars where he belongs and he is on the Sex Offenders Register for life,” she said. “I’m just glad he is off the streets and can’t do what he did to anyone else. It has had such an impact on us all, and it will always be like this now. We are just trying to rebuild our lives and make sure the girls are okay. It’s been a living hell for us, but now that it’s over, it’s a weight off our shoulders.”
Snowdon was released from HMP Barlinnie in July 2018 and is currently residing in the Belle Vue area of Wakefield, where he continues to serve his sentence and undergo monitoring as part of his registration requirements.
