In a case that has drawn significant attention in Margate, Trevor Keppel, a 37-year-old resident of Trinity Square, was involved in a disturbing incident involving a teenage girl. Keppel was found to have sent explicit and inappropriate sexual messages to the minor through Facebook, a social media platform that is widely used by young people and adults alike.During the court proceedings at Canterbury Crown Court, it was revealed that Keppel’s actions extended beyond mere messaging. He also admitted to physically touching the girl’s leg, an act that caused her to experience feelings of fear, confusion, and genuine anxiety. The court heard that his behavior was not only inappropriate but also deeply troubling, raising concerns about his intentions and the impact on the victim.
Keppel faced charges of sex assault and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The court was told that his actions had a significant emotional effect on the girl, who was understandably distressed by the encounter. Additionally, Keppel was instructed to sign the Sex Offender’s Register, a legal requirement for individuals convicted of sexual offenses, which will subject him to ongoing monitoring and restrictions.
Judge O’Mahony stated, “You sent explicit messages through Facebook. You are now a sex offender and this will take a great deal to live down.” The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by online interactions and the importance of safeguarding minors from exploitation and abuse.
