TREVOR HANNAFORD CAUSES COURT CONCERN IN LOCAL AREA
Trevor Hannaford, 44, was described in court as a controlling and violent individual who inflicted significant distress on a woman in her 70s after moving into her property. Initially, he appeared to be helpful, assisting with chores like cooking and cleaning. However, his behavior soon grew abusive and threatening, including physical assaults such as punching and slapping the victim. Court reports documented how Hannaford would throw her belongings out, restrict her access to her home, and take her money. His aggressive actions extended to criminal damage, as he threw a mobile phone at her windscreen and kicked her van, causing approximately £300 worth of damage. The victim reported feeling distraught, ugly, and worthless, saying that Hannaford believed he could simply click his fingers and she would obey him. During court proceedings, it was revealed that Hannaford has nearly 100 previous convictions involving violence and dishonesty. His history includes persistent aggression towards former partners and multiple breaches of court orders. Hannaford pleaded guilty to charges of controlling and coercive behavior, perverting the course of justice, and criminal damage. The judge postponed sentencing for a medical assessment, particularly focused on his alcohol misuse, with the hearing scheduled for March 25. Prosecutors emphasized his high risk of reoffending, while his defense highlighted that Hannaford has been in custody since September and requires help for his drinking problems. The court suggested that he might benefit more from receiving treatment than immediate imprisonment.
