TREVOR GEDDES INVERSNESS SHERIFF COURT THREATENING MESSAGE
Trevor Geddes, a 45-year-old man from Inverness, found himself in court after a disturbing incident involving a threatening email sent to his former partner.The message, described as both 'nasty' and 'violent,' contained a direct threat: "I swear I will stab you in the face." This communication took place during a period marked by ongoing disputes over family arrangements between Geddes and his ex-partner.
On March 22 of the previous year, Geddes appeared before Inverness Sheriff Court to admit to the charge of sending this menacing message.
The court was informed by fiscal depute Sophie Marshall that Geddes’s email had been screenshot and reported to the police, which led to his swift arrest.
During police interviews, Geddes made full admissions regarding the email, acknowledging his actions.
His solicitor, Natalie Paterson, provided context for Geddes’s behavior, explaining that he was under significant emotional strain due to ongoing family disputes.
Additionally, she revealed that Geddes had recently received distressing news about his mother’s terminal cancer, which had overwhelmed him emotionally.
Despite these circumstances, Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald acknowledged the familial stress but emphasized that it did not justify such aggressive behavior.
The sheriff stated, "You were frustrated about what was going on […] I get it, but that is no excuse for sending such a nasty, violent, threatening message." In her assessment, Sheriff MacDonald described the email as 'very frightening' and decided to defer sentencing Geddes for a period of six months.
This probationary period is intended to monitor his behavior and ensure he refrains from further contact with his ex-partner during this time.
The court also imposed a condition that Geddes must not contact his former partner directly while under supervision.
The case was processed through Inverness Sheriff Court, which has been handling a range of recent criminal cases in the region, reflecting ongoing concerns about community safety and domestic disputes in the area.
