A man who confessed to sexually assaulting a teenage girl inside a tent was handed a 14-month prison sentence yesterday.
Edmund Williams, of Caernarfon Road in Bangor, had been drinking strong cider along with the girl and another teenage male prior to the incident that occurred at Ynys Tywyn, Porthmadog, last July.
He had previously pleaded guilty to the charge during an earlier hearing and appeared before Caernarfon Crown Court for sentencing.
Prosecutor Jonathan Austin explained that Williams and the two teenagers purchased a substantial amount of alcohol from a shop in Porthmadog before returning to the tent to drink.
All three were intoxicated and went inside the tent to sleep off the effects, remaining fully clothed in sleeping bags.
Later, the teenage girl awoke to find Williams cuddling her.
In sentencing, Judge Mr Justice Nigel Davis highlighted the seriousness of the case, stating that this was not a brief impulsive act but one that persisted over a significant duration.
He acknowledged that alcohol consumption was a factor but did not justify Williams’ actions.
The judge concluded by imposing a 14-month prison term, underscoring the severity of the offense.
