TONY DOWNES POLE DUNGEON: POOLE PERVERT JAILED FOR VOYEURISM AND EXTREME PORNOGRAPHY
In October 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Tony Lee Downes, a resident of Poole, who was convicted of serious voyeuristic offenses and possession of extreme pornography. The case came to light after police investigations uncovered shocking footage recorded at an undisclosed location, which depicted children in a vulnerable state.
Downes, aged 43 and residing on Hinchliffe Road in Poole, appeared before Bournemouth Crown Court on October 1 to face sentencing after previously admitting guilt to multiple charges.
These included two counts of voyeurism, possession of extreme pornography, and taking an indecent photograph of a child.
His guilty plea followed an arrest by Dorset Police, which was initiated after a report of voyeuristic activity at an address in East Dorset.
The police had initially detained Downes and seized his mobile phone for examination.
During the forensic analysis, officers discovered three video recordings that appeared to be films of children, estimated to be between nine and 14 years old, in states of undress, specifically drying themselves with towels in a changing room.
These videos were deemed highly inappropriate and indicative of voyeuristic intent.
Further investigation revealed additional video files of a voyeuristic nature, including footage related to upskirting and recordings of women in various stages of undress, which Downes had expressed a desire to capture.
The court also heard that the phone contained extremely graphic material, including footage of female genital mutilation, a form of extreme pornography that is both illegal and deeply disturbing.
Prosecutor Christopher Wing detailed that the police re-arrested Downes after discovering these files, emphasizing the severity of the offenses.
During the proceedings, Downes admitted to possessing further video files of a voyeuristic nature and expressed remorse, with statements indicating he recognized the wrongfulness of his actions.
His defense lawyer, Robert Grey, highlighted that Downes, who works as a parcel delivery driver, had taken steps to address his offending behavior.
Grey stated that his client had expressed feelings of self-hatred, saying, “I am completely in the wrong” and “I hate myself for all of this.” Judge Fuller QC addressed the court, noting that the footage filmed in the changing room was clearly used for Downes’ own gratification.
The judge sentenced him to 15 months in prison, ordering the forfeiture and destruction of his mobile phone to prevent further misuse.
Additionally, Downes was placed under a sexual harm prevention order and required to register as a sex offender, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the need for ongoing monitoring.
This case underscores the serious nature of voyeuristic offenses and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in protecting vulnerable individuals from exploitation and abuse.
