Tommie Dyre Child Sexual Abuser in Dumfries

A man from Dumfries has received a court sentence after admitting to filming a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl and sharing the footage online.

Tommie Dyer, aged 20 and residing on Cairn Avenue, appeared at Dumfries Sheriff Court where he pleaded guilty to charges of sexual activity with a minor and the dissemination of an intimate recording without consent in 2023.

The prosecution, led by procurator fiscal depute Gemma Hind, revealed that Dyer, who was 17 at the time, contacted the girl through social media in May 2023.

The two maintained communication over several months, with the girl disclosing her age as just 14.

During the August school holidays, Dyer invited her to his house to 'watch football.' Inside his bedroom, the girl performed oral sex on him.

She noticed Dyer holding a phone, and when she inquired about it, he claimed he was 'messaging his mother.' Mrs Hind explained that shortly afterward, Dyer put his phone down and asked her to leave, leading to her confusion but she left without resistance.

It was only weeks later that she learned a recording had been shared on social media, which prompted her to contact the police.

Defense attorney Tanya Steele emphasized Dyer’s age at the time of the incident, describing him as 'remorseful' and 'disgusted' with himself.

She also noted that the recording was shared while Dyer was intoxicated.

Sheriff Mungo Bovey, before sentencing, stated, 'I'm not going to send you to jail, but I will impose a set of penalties that reflect the court’s view of the seriousness of this matter.' As a result, Dyer was ordered to complete a community payback order involving 300 hours of unpaid work and was subject to a six-month electronic monitoring restriction during specific hours.

Additionally, a five-year non-harassment order was put in place, prohibiting contact with the girl, serving as an alternative to jail.

Dyer was not required to register as a sex offender.
