FORMER SWIMMING COACH JAILED FOR SEX ASSAULTS ON CHILDREN
Tom Piggot, a former swimming coach from Welshpool, has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting three children. At his trial in Mold Crown Court in July, he faced and denied ten charges, including two counts of rape.
The court also found him guilty of possessing indecent videos and pictures of children, many of which were classified as highly serious.
Piggot argued that his devices had been hacked to explain the presence of such material.
Following the verdict, Detective Constable Steve Williams of Dyfed Powys Police remarked that the victims’ bravery in coming forward was crucial in achieving the convictions.
He described some of the images found on Piggot’s devices as among the worst he had seen.
After Piggot was sentenced on Monday, Sandra Subacchi of the Crown Prosecution Service stated that the defendant denied any sexual contact with his child victims and maintained that his devices had been compromised through hacking, a claim rejected by the jury.
She emphasized that rape remains a devastating crime, and that the CPS relies on victims’ courage to help prosecute offenders.
She praised the victims' actions for enabling the case to be successfully prosecuted.
