TINA THORN FROM LOOE CONVICTED FOR NEGLECTING PETS IN POLPERRO ROAD AND LAUNCESTON

Tina Michelle Thorn, born on January 14, 1978, and residing temporarily at a holiday park on Polperro Road in Looe, has been found guilty of a serious animal welfare offence. The case centers around her failure to seek veterinary care for her ailing cat, which was suffering from a facial tumour. This neglect occurred over a period spanning from June to August 2022, in the town of Launceston, where Thorn's inaction caused unnecessary pain and suffering to her pet.r>

The animal in question was a black cat named Peps. Despite the evident health issues affecting Peps, Thorn chose not to take him to a veterinarian for treatment. Instead, she left the cat to endure the pain, fully aware or at least reasonably expected to know that her inaction would result in further suffering or possibly death. The case highlights the importance of responsible pet ownership and the legal obligations owners have to ensure their animals receive proper medical attention.r>

Thorn appeared before magistrates in May 2023, where she pleaded guilty to the charges. The court's proceedings did not clarify whether Peps survived the ordeal, leaving the outcome of the cat's health uncertain.r>

In terms of sentencing, Thorn received a community order that includes 20 days of rehabilitation activities and mental health treatment. She was also ordered to pay costs amounting to £200, along with a victim surcharge of £114. Additionally, a deprivation order was issued concerning five cats and a dog, although this order is currently suspended pending the outcome of her appeal. The court also imposed a ten-year ban on Thorn owning or keeping any domestic animals, emphasizing the seriousness of her neglect and the need to prevent future incidents.r>

This case underscores the ongoing issues of animal neglect and the legal consequences faced by those who fail to provide adequate care for their pets, especially in regions like Looe and Launceston where community awareness and animal welfare are vital.
