CAMBRIDGE MAN JAILED FOR STALKING AND COERCIVE DOMESTIC ABUSE
A Cambridge man named Timothy Smith, residing in Ditton Fields, has been sentenced to over two years in prison for his involvement in domestic abuse and stalking.Smith pled guilty to multiple charges including stalking, breaching a restraining order, assault by beating, and coercive control.
His abusive behavior targeted two women simultaneously.
He initially began a relationship with his first victim in 2019, almost immediately moving in with her.
Two months into the relationship, he accused her of infidelity.
The victim described the relationship as toxic and highlighted alcohol as a factor influencing Smith's aggressive actions.
In early 2021, she ended the relationship, but Smith continued to stalk her by peering over fences and windows, calling, texting, and even attending a pub she frequented.
Despite a court-imposed two-year restraining order in January 2022, Smith ignored it and continued to harass her with messages and calls into 2023.
Concurrently, Smith was coercively controlling his second partner, confining her for two years from April 2021.
She reported frequent violence, especially after drinking, paranoia, accusations of infidelity, and controlling behaviors such as limiting her social interactions and isolating her from family.
She suffered bruising from him grabbing her jaw when he believed she looked at someone improperly.
Smith was arrested but initially denied the allegations until he pleaded guilty.
He was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court on December 1 to two years and two months in prison, with two restraining orders for 10 years each preventing contact with either woman.
The investigating officer emphasized that domestic abuse is not always physical and includes threats, intimidation, and control, urging victims to seek help.
The sentencing aims to give closure to the victims and encourage reporting of domestic abuse.
